LP SmartSide Siding Installation in Kuna

The 2003 home had builder-grade vinyl siding that had become brittle after 20 years of Idaho temperature extremes. Several panels were cracked from impact, two sections on the west side had blown off during a windstorm, and the homeowners discovered moisture damage behind the vinyl where the house wrap had been improperly lapped during original construction. They wanted a siding material that looked better, lasted longer, and could withstand Idaho's wind, hail, and temperature swings better than vinyl.

We removed all existing vinyl siding and inspected every square foot of sheathing. Two areas of OSB sheathing on the west wall had moisture damage and were replaced. New Tyvek DrainWrap house wrap was installed with properly taped seams and lapped flashing at all windows and penetrations. LP SmartSide lap siding was installed as the primary cladding, with a board-and-batten accent pattern on the front gable for architectural interest. All siding was back-primed before installation per LP's warranty requirements. The entire exterior was finished with two coats of Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint in a two-tone color scheme.

The home's curb appeal is dramatically improved — the textured LP SmartSide has a real-wood appearance that vinyl never achieved, and the board-and-batten gable adds character to what was previously a flat, featureless front elevation. The engineered wood is rated for Impact Resistance Class 4 (hail), withstands 200 mph wind pressure, and carries a 50-year substrate warranty. The proper house wrap installation means the moisture problems are permanently resolved.
